1. The Sixth Annual Gateway Chapter-NCVA Reunion was held 23-24 September 2011 in Farmington, Missouri. Chapter members stayed the Hampton Inn where the lobby area served as the Hospitality Room; a free hot breakfast was provided by the hotel. On Saturday, 24 September 2011, at the 11-ish hour, the Chapter’s meeting was held at VFW Post #5896, located in Farmington, Missouri. The primary purpose of the meeting was the appointment of one member to complete the term of Director-At-Large #2, held by Larry Gifford, who was resigning his position due to health reasons. 3. The 2011 Chapter Meeting was convened by President Cameron Cook. Topics of discussion were: Old Business a. The 2010 Chapter meeting minutes were read. b. The 2010 attendance was 19 members and spouses. According to NCVA National database, 177 members are within the Chapter boundaries. c. The Chapter Financial Report for the period 01Jan10-31Dec10 was provided. d. No other old business was presented for discussion by the membership.
New Business a. The minutes of the Special Chapter meeting held at the 2011 National Reunion in Louisville, Kentucky on 21 May 2011 were read. The primary purpose of the meeting was to amend articles of the Chapter’s Constitution/Bylaws (Rev02 dated 18Sep2010) which would allow the Board of Directors to initiate emergency actions that effect the Chapter. b. Director-At-Large #2, Larry Gifford has resigned his position of office due to his current health conditions, but desires to remain a member of the Gateway Chapter-NCVA. His current term of office is 2007-2013. President Cook asked the membership if anyone would be willing to fulfill the remaining term. Bill Craig graciously accepted the Director position. c. After a short intermission, in which the Directors discuss Officer positions, President Cook announced that current Chapter Officer positions remain unchanged and that Bill Craig will fill the position of Director-At-Large #2. d. Secretary/Treasurer John Whitworth gave notice that he will not pursue a Director position when his term expires in 2012. The early announcement was to allow any member seeking the position to familiarize them self with the QuickBooks accounting system used by the Chapter. Members who desire this responsibility are requested to contact any Director. e. Director-At-Large #1, Sam Thompson, accepted the additional responsibilities as Chairperson for the newly formed Chapter Reunion Site Committee; Frank Huffman agreed to assist. The committee will be responsible for selection of a city and make arrangements of hotel/motel, meeting and eating locations. Other Chapter members are encouraged to assist the committee by submitting a location. The proposed reunion weekend would be the second or third weekend following the Labor Day weekend. f. Director-At-Large #1, Sam Thompson, led a discussion about using online resources to get the word passed about the Chapter by using either: Chapter’s website (costing $134 for 2 years which expires in July 2012); FREE Facebook? National NCVA Yahoo? Or use combination of all current online domains. Discussion remains open. g. Smokey Mountain Chapter is sponsoring a Bastrop, TX Relief Fund for two NCVA members (Lee Mobley and Ray Long) whose homes were destroyed by latest firestorm. Individuals can contribute directly vs Chapter donation. h. The Chapter has been paying the gratuity cost of the Chapter’s dinner due to the size of the group. Restaurants normally add an additional 18% gratuity for groups over eight. By a show of hands, the membership agreed to continue the practice. Members also have the option to disburse additional gratuity if they desire. i. Bryce Lockwood, the sole surviving Marine of the 08Jun1967 Israeli attack of the USS Liberty, presented a (not yet released) DVD showing of “Justice for the Liberty”. There was a sympathetic response to the showing with a lot of “Why” questions weren’t a nd still aren’t answered. Doc Keipfer’s remark about Jim Ennes’ “impossible” hop down two flights with a shattered femur “… there’s no incentive like rockets exploding in the room to make you do the impossible!” and Doc’s desire “… to pour a bottle of fine Scotch on Johnson’s grave, but it has to go through my kidney’s first!”, got lots of laughs and chuckles.
